1986 samurai no spark

Hello all, New to forum and need a little help with my no spark issue.
I was driving, going about 60 mph and coming up to a stop light i decelerated and the engine shut down. I coasted through the light and pulled off the road. When i tried to restart the engine cranked but would not start.

.....I found the truck was very low on oil and added a qt

.....i checked for fuel and and it seems to have fuel and that seemed good.

......used starting fluid,........no luck!

.......checked spark plugs for spark........no luck.

.......coil wire........no luck.

.......removed timing beltt cover belt is not broken and turns.

......looked inside valve cover nothing seems broken and oil is flowing.

.....removed dist cap and dist is rotating.

.......removed plugs and pistons seem to be fine.

.......removed coil and replaced for a hopefully cheap quick fix........no luck.

......cleaned and reseated, dist , coil and a few other ground wire contact points......no luck!!

.....checked all fuses at fuse box under dash and they are good.

.......bought points for distributor but it does not seem to use points?? Top of dist has two plastic covered modules that say do not remove cover.

.......pulled and visually inspecred components and board of control module under glovebox......no signs of anything being burnt or damaged.

.......related or not.... i found During all this inspection two burnt wires that must have been up against a hot engine part that i re wrapped with electrical tape, they run along the firewall near the distributor but do not go to dist as far as i can tell,.....they run toward the back of the vehicle along the top of the trans.
.......one wire that goes i to top of 4wd housing is broken off and i believe that to be for 4wd indicator light.

Are there common fail points for this year and model samurai.??
Any help would be appreciated!!!!

..

I once had an ignition failure like this while delivering pizza.

Although the ignition circuit fuse blew - which is a bit different than your experience - it turned out to be an electrical problem inside the Distributor.

The first thing to do is to download the colorized factory wiring diagram at Ack's faq - http://www.acksfaq.com - (search diagram) and start examining EVERY component and wire in the ignition circuit.

Research and troubleshoot before throwing money at a problem.

I hope that this helps!

Thanks for your help!!!
Replaced distributor and that fixed the no spark issue.

Now in process of replacing stock carb with a weber 32/36, i have the carb off and plan on cleaning/painting/ organizing engine compartment befor putting the weber on.
All new to me so any help/tips that are not in the weber instructions would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks.
