Radio static

So since Facebook is a pain in the ass I figured Iíd post here and see what happens.

I have static coming from my radio when car is running. Iíve tried 2 radioís, stock antenna, powered antenna. Iíve added good clean grounds in the engine bay. I ran power strait from the battery. I even ran my ground to the battery just to test it. Iíve tried different ground spots under the dash. Nothing will fix the issue. Itís not an alternator whine but just weird static. Does not do it when I play a cd or iPod.

Any help would be great. Thanx

Sounds like you have some external interference somewhere within the system. Is the head unit connected to an amp? Is the head unit touching bare metal when installed? You may want to try a ground loop isolator. Could help fix the problem.

No amp. Not touching metal. I would think if it was a ground issue that it would also do it with a cd but it doesn’t.

If you've checked all ground for the head unit. Do the speakers have good ground contact? Worth a try.

Id bet it has to do with head unit ground interference or the actual AM/FM antenna being the issue.

Because it drops out when playing a cd, Id lean more towards antenna wire being issue or possibly getting noise/interference from its routing. Is there anything else in the samurai aftermarket that may pickup interference?

I had similar issue after changing windshield frame/windshield. Pulled things back apart and my antenna had questionable pinch/rub mark at lower windshield mount. Bought the LROR replacement, and all is clear and clean.

Iíve tried the stock antenna and a powered antenna and two decks. Nothing aftermarket in the samurai. So unless both antennas are bad Iím at a loss

Could be the alternator going out try completly disconnecting it, make sure the power wire is taped up or no where near touching metal, then fire it up and test the radio. Also make sure the distributor ground is good ignition system can cause interference as well.

Well I did a motor swap and it went away partially. I’m going to blam the rest on the antenna.
