I'm thinking about upgrading my axels. looks like most of you guys run waggys or toys if you could tell me the pro's and con's of each it would help me in my decision. I have a Calmini 5" lift with 33x12.50x15 on it and i would like to keep it sprung under. I am on a tight budget so cost is a major factor. i am allso thinking of geting the RRO 6:1 crawler t-case gears any one use these?
if you want 6.x tcase gears just go with trail gear - cheaper and lower and good service from TG.
For axles the toy swap is the most common and will be easiest to find parts for. Keeping it spring under you won't have to modify steering as much which is good. For either option though you'll have a center diff in the rear to deal with, so that means that to avoid vibrations you'll need a CV rear drive shaft or hybrid offset diff rear axle from Sky or someone...fairly cheap in the grand scheme of things but will definitely add cost.
IMO the waggy's will just be heavier and too wide an won't add much (any?) strength or ground clearance. Plus less parts to do swap (not sure there) and I assume you have change the pinion from u-joint yoke to flange style? Bet there are several swap threads for both - search here and on zuwharrie for more info

goodway to stay cheap is to keep your sammy axles.if those 33" are what you will be running for a while just buy the gears which are needed.get yourself some birfield rings and keep off the petal on the right.if you really need to upgrade it isnt cheap as the little hidden and not so hidden costs add up fast.i wanted 36s and thats why i upgraded but if you can keep those axles alive or dont mind swapping one out once in a while you can keep some coin.

For 33's you might as well just keep your stock axles for now. They will hold up as long as you drive sane.I ran 31's with a locker for a couple of years and beat on the stock axles every time out. They only broke once(it was a long side inner shaft)I'm going to 33's this year on the stock axles.I plan on running "double tough"axle shafts because I got a deal on them, but if you are easier on your sami then me the stock axle shafts will be fine.

Stay Stock! Since you are staying S.U.A. it will be easy to swap front housings if you bend one and spares are plentiful.

Thanks for the advice. I had heard that the stock axels where real weak and sence i need to rebuild the rear anyway i thought i would upgrade. But if you guys think they can handle 33's then maby I"ll give it a try. Allso I was thinking of welding the rear while I had it out. its not a DD and I hardly drive it on the street (no tag). Do you think it will hold up?

I plan to weld my rear diff when I have it apart for new axle seals and I drive mine on the road every chance I get.
