I have a chance to buy a 85 Sammi 4speed, I had a 1987 JX a long time ago... Is there anything I need to look for on the 84, I am getting it cheap.

I plan on upgrading a lot.. Can I put in a 5 speed with the stock computer??

Is the 4 speed to 5 speed noticable??? Thanks guy I am brand new on the site

Thats not a 413 it's probably a SJ410

There are a couple of differences between the samurai and the sj410. The hood for example, you can mount the sj410 hood on the samurai but you need to make clearance for the top of the engine. You can put a spacer between the chassis and the front clip to fix that problem. The diameter of the ring (R&P) is smaller then the samurai, so you cant use them. The axles are smaller, a little bit more then 3". The springmounts on the chassis are different. The 410 motor and trans are mounted differently. You can't just drop a 1.3 or use a Sammi tranny in it without fabricating your own motor and trans mounts. Lower diff ratio, but no 5th and a higher first gear. Transfer case is lower in both high and low range.

HOW cheap??? and have pics? don't worry we won't steal it out from under you:mrgreen:

they did'nt start makeing the "samurai"untill 1986.
anything older than that(down to like 83) is an sj-410(like sally said)they do look alike.
does it run?if not keep your nitro truck and give them the $100.00,not worth much more than that.running for cash if you were selling,i was told $1500.00 tops.

Not positive on the base but the are not as wide as a samurai

Does the motor have less HP than the smaurai???
Yes it is smaller probably a 1.0

any other things I need to know???

I listed all the diff's I know of above in the thread

Thanks for the help by the way...
No problem thats what the tech section is here for

I would buy it. You can get way more than that on ebay if it's not exactly what you wanted.

What are your plans on it ? Gonna use it as a Daily Driver or trail rig?

The inside is trashed, but is does run, I have not heard it yet will see it run on sunday.... When you said the axle was 3in smaller are you talking a bought the length??? from rotor to rotor? is the wheel base smaller, the Samurai is small enough I dont want to have a smaller wheel base than the Samurai, Do I ???

Think it is the same wheelbase 3" smaller rotor to rotor

they are a little lighter and usually lighter is better with offroad vehicles

I also think ddment has a relative with one or something he might know more. send him a pm
Or when some people get home from work they can give you a definate yes or no on the wheelbase

I am thniking of a trail rig but need to get it to the trail,,, I am going to do a some kind of lift, for know maybe SPOA latter 4 link or coils.. and waggy or toyota axles eventualy Oh yea bigger motor.

I have a grand cheorkee with 3.5 lift, but do do any more lifting to this is MONEY LOTS of it.. So I am looking for a less expensive trail rig.

COuld someone give the inside length or your frame rail, I want to make sure this is the same as the samurai, If it is samller than the samurai then I dont think I will be able to get a larger motor in it.
