I talked to my "parts guy" and asked him about where I could get a bore done...

Long story short, I'm gonna give him $100 and a block (we got one sitting out in the weather for parts) and in 1-3 weeks, I get it back...

What will be done:
Bore out to .040 over.
Replaced pistons (on their part)
Hone.
Balance and blueprinted...

I will probably rebuild the bottom end and put a 1600 8valve head on it.

From that I am looking at about 20-30 HP gain, right? $100 for equal/more power than a 1600 swap!

does it take 3 weeks to do something like that? thats kinda what i want to do. limited funds dictates a cheaper build

Should only take 2 days to bore and hone, then building it (at my house) would take me a while, then putting it in would take a while as well...

The 1.6 head is bigger so it will yeild less compression. You would be better off with the 1.3 head it is smaller so it will yield more compression. More compression=more HP.

People use the 1.3 head on 1.6 engines for more compression.....more HP.

Dont get me wrong the .40 over is good and will give you more HP but I think it would perform better with the 1.3 head.

I'm looking at getting a block bored also, and so your post got my attention. I'm confused about who's doing what on your build for $100.00, though.

Your parts guy will bore and hone - right? So, when you say" Replaced pistons (on their part)" is that part of the $100.00?

And the balance and blueprining - that's part of it too?

Well, I was in a hurry on the first swap of words, but I called him later and it is just a Bore and hone, balanced and blueprinted for $80, (but I a giving him the block to take to the place of buisiness, so I will throw in an extra $20.)
