Alright, Im now using my last spare short side front axle. Which means i no longer have a spare.
So im looking at saving up for either the new 30 spline longfields or the sky birf eliminator kit.
Cost really isnt an issue. I want whats best and am willin to pay for that. Jus wondering what yall think.
Thanks for any and all input,
Will

I want the strongest thati can buy. It seems that the longfields are the ticket. I dont have alot of money to spend so i need to buy the right part the first time. Cuz i wont be able to afford to do it a second time.

Go with the Longfields... I have heard of a lot of problems with the birfield eliminator kit. I remember reading that they had problems with the oil seals leaking due to improper tolerances on the axleshafts.
It's also much easier to swap the axleshaft/birfield than do all of the work associated with the birfield eliminator kit.

I live just down the road from and wheel with Bobby Long, and I can tell you for sure that his 30 spline axle is by far the best Toyota axle you can get. No other even comes close.
I've been over at Bobby's house many times and watched his axle breaking machine in action. Its amazing what kinda force the 30 spline set can with stand.

does the machine break in tension or a shear force?

The longfields are a hell of a lot stronger not to mention the BEK does not turn very sharp

I Was just out with a guy yesterday with a 4runner on 36" tires that broke his BEK. He was not a happy camper because he had just put it in...

just proof that the Long's are the best way to go!
I have a set of Long's 30's in my yota's and I seriously doubt I will ever break one!

I am about to upgrade to longs as well. From what I have read you want to purchase bobby's hub gear upgrade. Apparently breaking a factory hub gear can take out the splines on the stub!

You better purchace a MACK FRICKIN truck... Dam boy I have blown 2 birfs in 3 yrs. BOTH TIMES in comp doing stupid stuff at which I gaurantee less rpm then you. 4.3, 4L60E trans (reworked bumped pressure) dual toy cases 5:01 in rear case and 5:71 along with 3# air in my 38's I am well over 300:1 with the auto. you need a liter foot and a better line. :funny: :funny:
you know I am just messing with you. Go long

does the machine break in tension or a shear force?
My guess would be a torsional force over a shear or tension force. An axle shaft will not experience much tensional or shear forces during normal use.
great info guys
im swaping in my 4.3 to th-350 to stock case to 5:1 case to 5.29's.
i hope i wont need axles for a very long time but if i do it seems that the longfields are the way to go.
does the BEK make the yota an open knuckle?

Nope the yota cant be an open knuckle. Well i guess it COULD but it would have yota outers.

I am running Stock Toy axles.... NO chromoly,crYhoed smoke and mirors for me... I suppose if I broke everytime I went out I would maybe consider it. But for now no reason too. My next axles are mfg spider 9's with high pinion front and rear, along with a mfg knuckle and Long 60 birfs 45 deg. units. I love my toy axles BUT the turning radius does suck eggs.

I've been thinking about a 4.3 in my buggy but not sure how the toyota axle would hold up with that and 39.5" iroks????

I currently run 38 with 5:71 R/P and the 4.3... My setup 4.3, a beefed 4L60E, dual toy case 2:28 1st case, 5:01 2nd case, 5:71 R/P with 38x12.5x15 swampers.. Numbers 2.5:1x3.06x2.28x5.01x5.71= 498.965 Short bus low all with the torque of the 4.3
Thats a lot of gear!!!! thanks, sounds like I'm starting a new project soon:dance:

I know you are locked up front, so do you at least have rings on the birfs.?popcornn
