Yes I know this is a long way off. Our goal is to get 300 rigs out to this event in May of 2009 May 22nd through May 25th. It is the tenth anniversary of the zuksofarizona.com club, Scott Senko and I will be in charge of this event from now on. The Verde Valley offers some of the greatest trails in Arizona. From Scenic to hardcore break your junk rock crawling (The road to Brutal is so tough lots of rigs break before they get to the trail head, LOL!). Our plans include a Poker Run, Party event with the biggest giveaway of products in the history of all events. I will be adding to this thread all year long and want a really good showing of the ZK faithful. For the most hardcore of hardcore the #1 rated trail in AZ is only 49 miles away. Matrix as got to be the most wicked trail I have ever seen. Plan for either carnage which = a great time or simply a great time.

One if the things I have always thought about doing was timed trials for Samurais. The concept is you get 2 or 3 rigs that are similar and sent them off together on a marked trail. A minute later you send off another 2 to 3 rigs. The first group has markers on the windshield that read 1a, 1b, 1c. The second through the last group have increasing identifying numbers and letters. The idea is they have to negoiate the trail and be at a certain place at a certain time. You have hidden time stations where people come out of the bushes and write their time down on a score sheet. If they are early they lose double points. On time is no points and late is single points. The lowest score wins. If they are early and stop their wheels turning they are penalized at that time. The idea is to hit the mark right on the second. I use to race the Enduro circuit in California and these timed enduros were da bomb. If your clock failed you knew you were early if you caught up with the people in front of you or late if you got passed up by the group behind you. Would love to incorporate this into ZP09 for those willing to go for trophys.
Looking for ideas like this to make this the most talked about event ever.
To save travel money for this event start dropping your daily change in a jug and next year no matter what gas costs you will have the money.

Cory,
Scott and I are going to be asking for ZOA help in the extreme. We have so many ideas and only 1 year to make this the "GO TO" event for Suzuki addicts. Your wife's RN duties will be be SO needed. I plan on bringing back bleeding participants to the home base with big smiles on their faces. Sorta reminds me of when I broke my pelvis on the Barstow to Vegas run in 1978. It hurt so much to laugh during the ambulance ride and hospitalization, what a blast! Just have to figure how to get a bunch of strippers to come out in the heat on unaccessible trails??

I am guessing you are asking where ZP09 is located. Right in the middle of Arizona. 52 miles south of Flagstaff, turn right off I17 onto Hiway260 and follow the signs to Dead Horse State Park. We know for a fact that the park will be full as it is first come first served. So plan on staying at a local hotel or roughing it out by the beautiful Verde River. We will be posting more camping and hotel info later on.

Well I know the Havazuk crowd makes it every year, I am not sure of their route but I will try to explain. From Kingman it is 199 miles to my location through Flagstaff on the 40 and Cottonwood is 15 miles away from me. From Blythe via the 10, it is 3+ hours through Phoenix and up north on the 17 to the Verde Valley.

MY, count me in. A year is a long time to forsee any issues coming up, but from what I can tell, I am going 100%. Would love to get to meet some of yall.
I know its early, but just to get an idea: I would be towing the Zuk, and plan to stay in a hotel (especially if the lady comes along !) Are their hotels close enough, so that I would be able to park the tow rig, park the trailer, and just travel back and forth in the Zuk ? My Zuk doesn't even resemble street legal BTW, but I do have a green sticker ! lol
Or would I have to tow back and forth ? If thats the case, might look into a tow bar so I can unload the trailer and just flat tow "to and from" .

Jeezzzzzz No strippers! I don't want to have to bring my G-Friend unless there will be at least a big boob contest with a buggy for first prize. She requires the RV too. She is not a cheep date. She likes the toilet, TV/Internet and AC thing.
Looks like only 700 miles each way. MY says gas will be $1/gal by then. That makes it $187 round trip for gas which I can cover and MY will cover the rest if it goes over.
It would also mean not wheelin for a month prior to make sure Sami is all together. That should be worth an extra $5000 which MY will cover also.
Or I can do it all for a cold beer!
I don't know if I can wait to go. Better head on over there this month.

If your buggy has a plate it is legal here in AZ. Open wheels and all. The DOT just doesn't like full Hydro front steering or Beadlocks but we will be in a small town with lots of friends on the PD. Matrix is always available. We will be inviting everyone with buggies for a Monday run that is usually when most bail outta town anyways. Most guys head south and drive right by Table Mesa so if they have not broke everything we will have a good turn out on Matrix. A 1.5 mile trail that takes 2.5 hours per rig. 6 of the Nastiest obstacles in AZ. 2 monster waterfalls. The Gatekeeper, if you can't get through there you can't go on as it is the beginning of the trail. Spiderhole, The Gap, and the Exit.

Heck, you are doing better with the "green sticker" than us. Nevada gives you an option....plate or no plate! For some reason they do not like the buggy enough for a darn plate.
Towing it will have to be!
Not that the event coordinators have enough on thier plates aleady...but out of towner information would be great!

awesome !! Thanks for the info MY. I have the SEMA show this comin week, but when I get back, looks like I will be making my reservations.
Any hotel preferable ? nicer ? Closer ? Open to a tow rig + trailer + Sami ?? Lastly, do you think, if I stay in a hotel, I will be able to simply drive the samurai out to meet with you ? Or you think I will need to tow it ? Keep in mind, my samurai looks nothing like "street legal".

Cottonwood takes all of 4 minutes to drive through town. The PD is friendly to our cause and we will be given a "pass" on rigs that weekend. FYI AZ allows open wheeled buggies on the Hiways and roads. Preferably with a license plate or ORV sticker. Any "illegal" rigs have to stay in line when we drive through town. We meet at big locations for head counts and then depart from there. The farthest trail is Broken Arrow in Sedona which is the most scenic area in all of AZ. About 30 miles from Cottonwood. We usually take the back roads.
The Hotels listed are all within a few minutes of the meet up areas.

Going 25 through town is a good idea. There is one stretch of 2 lane hiway where the limit is 50 but I figure it will be bumper to bumper with rigs so your good. Some of the more distant trails like Broken Arrow in Sedona you may want to tow to but our plan is to take back roads and stay off the main hiway between Cottonwood and Sedona. On Monday when alot of people go to Matrix (about an hour away from Cottonwood) Trailers will be the way to go. We can't get a permit from the Highway Patrol for buggies on Hiway 17.

thinking about reserving one of them cabins for the week.
Depending on how things go, I'll be leaving Kansas City no later than the monday before and leaving the day after Memorial day.
My main concern - since I am doing the drive what I wheel deal - i'm trying to survive the trip by taking small chunks of driving/sightseeing per day. Anyone ever seen the biggest ball of string exhibit?

From Deadhorse or Cottonwood it is about 8 miles of pavement and 8 miles of dirt to park the trailers than another 3 miles to the beginning of Smasher1 & 2 or Brutal. Those are the big buggie trails.
Smiley Rock is fun in a buggy that is about 6 miles from camp. MY's Revenge is the farthest (other than Matrix) from Deadhorse but still in the Verde Valley. IF you have never been to Broken Arrow (22 miles from DH), you are going to want to go if you want scenic pictures of your buggy up on 100' tall rocks.

Please Kill This Thread!
My It is questionable that I can make it, actually doubtful. I do have to ask thought, why should the Thread be killed?
I respect the fact that you are spending a lot of time responding to the posts MY, maybe too much. If that is why you would ask for the Thread to be killed, allow others to respond. You have done a lot for this event to take place, you cannot do it all, and I think most (if not all) of us appreciate your efforts. Even though I may not be able to participate, thanks for your time and effort.

Because the official webpage for ZP09 is now operational and I would prefer to only have that announcement thread running here on ZK for comments and questions. Hopefully you can find a way to make it and meet a bunch of fellow ZKers. ZP has been the biggest event in my life for the last 4 years, I am not quitting on it, only making it better.

No the way it is going to work for you and the other early birds is that your going to drive to the shop and I will hand you the waiver. Once signed I will hand over the goodies, LOL! Starting Friday all the packets will be at the Park. Scott will come out of the Park to hand of packets so that no one has to pay the daily use fee.
The waiver is there to release the sponsors, vendors and host club from any issues.

of course, we simply have another couple coming with us and a buddy meeting us there and the cabin got to small, so my wife called around and rented a house at the little daisy for a good deal, so we are staying there, they said we could park all the rigs we wanted and work on our junk there if need be.
we just have not canceled the cabin yet so if someone needs it they can have it.

Just you Dog, it is always you.
JPR Ram, In order for the ZOA club to allow ZP09 to be controlled outside the club royalty it was mandatory that the club had access to the camp site they have always had. Like all clubs, ZOA has lots of members and most are inactive or MIA until ZP and then they show up. The Raven Loop is so crammed this year with ZOA (most ever) it is going to look like a refuge tent city. Even if we could bend the rules, there is no room. We made a super great contact this year with a Park supervisor and there is a possibility if all goes well that the Park will let us reserve another Loop for ZP10. They have never ever made that offer to anyone, so we will see. If they did, they projected to lose about $4,000 in Park revenues by letting us have it for the weekend. All this depends on the final body count and general behaviour of the crowd we expect to have in the Park Saturday night for the big dinner and giveaway. IF you read this far, good for you. Send the money now or it will be far more expensive when you arrive at the gate. We have deadlines to meet for T-shirt counts and other things. To encourage early payment there is a discount. We are having the dinner catered so not to be a burden on Redbeard (the Nations best traveling cook). The list of Vendors donations is looking awesome and I personally plan on doing a few thousand $ in ZOR products.
