Bombin down the road doing about 60and I hear a loud rattle coming from the enginepopcornn . I pull over and add 3 quarts of oil just to get it to read on the tip of the stick:shocked!: . This baby leaks like a freighter in Alaska. It quieted down a little but got worse as the day went on.

Ok I really don't have a question, I know it a rod on its way out. Just so you know I was able to milk another 36 miles out of her before it got really scary.

Time for a major engine transplant. I going with my Dad's 1300. 3 generations of Zuks got to be good for something:funny: .

OK I do have a question. Can you use a 1300 starter on a 1600 swap?

Yes... But you have to modify the engine block

I would just go for the 1600 with coresponding starter and not screw with the 1300 or starter. I have a 1600 8v and LOVE it.

Grinding the starter and/or the block can get you into trouble. I tried and now I have a 1600 block in the garage that has a patch of JB Weld to cover the window in the side of it...
Go for the 1.6 starter, you will be very happy.

bump. I think he is saying financially he can only afford to steal his dads 1300 right now. I think he was wondering about the starter for future reference. I think.

Understood.
Better to wait then and re-appropriate the 1300 for now.

I'm sorry for the confusion. I am going to steel my dad's 1300. But to do this I have to install his 8V 1600 for him. He did not have a starter for the swap and was wondering if he could use his 1300 starter.

I went ahead and bought a 1600 starter (with no core):shocked!: . I don't mind grinding but not if there isn't enough material to grind. Rather do it right.

I'm on the fence about an engine swap for the future. I think I'm waiting till I get really frustrated when I can't go some where everyone else is going. Matbe then I will be forced into something different.

Call me silly but I do like my 1300.

Sorry for the delayed reply. Pouring concrete all weekend.
